GoDaddy’s DNS service temporarily offline

GoDaddy, Inc., a popular provider of both website hosting and domain registration was knocked offline today after what appears to be a DDos (Distributed Denial of Service) attack was begun by a member of Anonymous.

The Associated Press reports that thousands and possibly millions of sites are affected. The preliminary numbers are upwards of 5-50 million website are affected.

This, unfortunately, means that our client’s sites are affected. You may have noticed that TinypintDesign.com is still online. Even though our company website is registered via GoDaddy, our DNS services are hosted across multiple locations in the world, providing us with the most uptime possible for our website.

Service Interruption – Attempted Denial of Service (DOS) Attack

At 12:28PM EST we detected an abnormally large amount of traffic beginning to overload our Chicago servers. We continued to monitor this influx of traffic to our system. Upon further review – it appears that two attacks were made – originating from both Amsterdam & Georgia, US.

No intrusion was made, though service slowed down for several high-volume customers of ours. No data was leaked or obtained  by the offending attack and your websites remain safe with Tinypint.
